Email Deliverability & Inbound Tester

Analyze Mail Exchange (MX) records, validate SPF and DMARC settings, and verify if any domain is configured to receive and authenticate incoming emails.

How the Email Deliverability & Inbound Tester Works

The Email Deliverability & Inbound Tester by DwellixTools analyzes the DNS (Domain Name System) settings that govern email delivery for any domain name. By querying secure DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) API endpoints, it validates whether a domain is configured to properly receive incoming emails and verify sender authenticity.

All queries are executed client-side inside your web browser using public DNS-over-HTTPS endpoints. DwellixTools does not log, store, or track the domains or email addresses you query.

Key Diagnostic Checks

  • Mail Exchange (MX) Validation: Scans DNS records for active incoming mail servers and orders them by priority. If MX records are missing, emails sent to your domain will bounce back.
  • SPF (Sender Policy Framework) Verification: Checks if your domain has published an SPF TXT record containing a valid list of authorized sending IP addresses.
  • DMARC Policy Check: Detects DMARC record alignments (_dmarc.{domain}) and parses policy strengths (none, quarantine, or reject) which tell receiving inboxes how to handle unauthorized spoofed messages.
  • Diagnostic Scorecard: Generates an immediate visual breakdown (Pass, Warning, or Danger) detailing any misconfigurations.
  • Troubleshooting Reports: Builds a structured plain-text diagnostic summary you can copy with one click to share with hosting providers or IT support.

Why Check Email Deliverability Configurations?

Setting up a custom domain email (like [email protected]) requires more than just creating the email address. Major inbox providers (such as Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook) have strict deliverability policies. If your domain is missing authentication records, your emails may be silently discarded or sent directly to spam.

  • Prevent Spam Folder Flags: Gmail and Yahoo strictly require SPF and DMARC configurations. Without these, your outbound emails will likely fail validation checks.
  • Protect Against Spoofing: A valid DMARC policy prevents malicious actors from sending fake spam emails pretending to be you.
  • Verify Inbound Functionality: Checking MX records is the quickest way to diagnose why you are not receiving emails after purchasing a domain or changing hosting settings.

How to Test Your Domain Step-by-Step

  1. Enter Email or Domain: Type your domain (e.g. example.com) or full email address (e.g. [email protected]) in the check box above.
  2. Click Check Deliverability: The tool queries public DNS endpoints to fetch MX, SPF, and DMARC records.
  3. Inspect the Scorecard: Check the status indicators:
    • Green: Inbox is active, secure, and ready.
    • Orange (Warning): Receiving is active, but missing DMARC or SPF security records.
    • Red (Danger): Mail servers are missing or configured incorrectly (inbound email will bounce).
  4. Copy Diagnostic Summary: Click Copy Report to save a detailed summary of your records for technical troubleshooting.
